LO3: Sound

  Sound Editing  As with the other micro elements and media language, sound creates alot of meaning and especially emotion from the audience. Sound helps the audience feel a certain way. Groups Digetic- (action, environment, sound effects to make the action sound more realistic. Dialogue which can be conversations that are heard between characters and help us understand the narrative.  which is heard by characters)   non-Digetic( soundtrack,  which cant be heard by characters. These are done to emphasis the scene to make it more interesting. Instruments are normally used to create tension in a film.) Sting: sound that is used as punctuation. Signal an enigma. Incidental Music: Music that is heard only by the audience by fits the themes of action that is taking place. L03 Editing

 EDITING  Editing involves finalising and perfecting your product by giving you time to also decide on what you want to keep or if anything needs changing. This is also used for the final steps of films or anything with imagery and sound to make sure everything is relevant or has purpose. transitions are also used in editing to show us how one shot changes to the other. Cross Cutting is also used along with CGI for special effects. Editing helps you understand the narrative of your product by arranging the footage.  Post production editing is mainly used in exam questions Continuity  Editing that is continuous in creating a narrative for the audience to understand. It appears to be invisible using cuts.  Camera Work Shot types  All shot types belong to one of two groups of shot types. Close ups or Wide shots Close up- commonly used to show emotions/ facial expressions of character. For examples, Heroic Protagonist Brave, in control (juxtaposition). Or a hero who shows fear and being portrayed as weak.  Understanding How Meaning Is Created In Media Products What to expect in Adverts Characters- Close-ups Music- Non diegetic music  Scenes from the film Title cards Props Costumes Location Transition  Creating spectacle and enigma   Use of close-ups The list above is known as codes and conventions(the ingredients that make up a specific genre of product). Macro ideas- what films, TV and radio use to gain a deeper understanding of something. (meaning, connotations, themes, messages.)  Micro elements- used to help us understand a particular macro idea. Micro element- Mis en scene, camera work, editing, sound. These can also be called media language. Q6,7,8 You will be asked to analyse theoretically how a product of your choice creates meaning. Macro meanings: Genre, Narrative, Representation Micro Meanings: Mise en Scene, Camerawork, Editing, Sound.  Worth 15, 20 marks.
