L03 Editing
EDITING
Editing involves finalising and perfecting your product by giving you time to also decide on what you want to keep or if anything needs changing. This is also used for the final steps of films or anything with imagery and sound to make sure everything is relevant or has purpose. transitions are also used in editing to show us how one shot changes to the other. Cross Cutting is also used along with CGI for special effects. Editing helps you understand the narrative of your product by arranging the footage.
Post production editing is mainly used in exam questions
Continuity
Editing that is continuous in creating a narrative for the audience to understand. It appears to be invisible using cuts.
SHOT REVERSE SHOT STRUCTURE- Juxtaposition two images in order to create a link between them (conversations hero antagonist and villain protagonist, good vs evil.) also car chases use this too to change shot from car to car.
ACTION MATCH- Creates spectacle throughout the action and movement in 2 or more shots. An action match is where the action began in shot is completed in the next shot.
CROSS CUTTING- 1 location which then cuts to another location. Examples- Hero protagonist and Antagonist, Hero protagonist and Hero protagonist, Antagonist and Antagonist.
INSERT SHOT- always a wide shot then cuts to a close up. With some having a significant prop.
EYE LINE MATCH- looking off-screen which then cuts to what they are looking at. This is to create empathy
ideal self, ideal partner- Cart Rogers(1980)
where media set up a character to do more than one thing (roll model). Or it could link to an audience wanting to be with certain characters.

Editing types for star wars Revenge of The Sith
In Star Wars Episode 3 Revenge of The Sith, this Shot Reverse Shot takes place on the planet Utapau. In this scene we see Obiwan Kenobi go face to face with General Grevious who is a cyborg. We can tell that this is a shot reverse shot as both characters are looking at each other but the audience are placed behind Obiwan Kenobi (who is the hero protagonist). This makes an audience feel more on Obiwans side as it gives the audience a perspective on who is the villain in this scene. However, whilst being in Obiwans perspective we can see how powerful and dominant General Grevious is. We can tell by the characters appearance, as General Grevious is made out of pure metal with only his vital organs remaining. This appearance gives the audience a feel of discomfort. We can also see how Gervious is also taller than Obiwan which shows how much dominance Grevious has and also portrays Obiwan as the under dog in this scene. This could also give the audience doubt of Obiwan succeeding in his mission. Also, in this shot we see that General Grevious has four lightsabers in this scene which had never been seen before in the Star Wars franchise, whereas Obiwan Kenobi only has one lightsaber. Also, we can tell who are the Protagonist and Antagonist. We can tell this by Obiwan wearing bright coloured robes and all together looking like the protagonist. Whereas General Grevious is a cyborg with his organs showing through his exoskeleton along with having his arms split into 4 arms.
In Star Wars Episode 3 Revenge of The Sith we see a fight take place between Mace Windu and Darth Sideous. This is because the Jedi learn that Darth Sideous changed his whole appearance into a senate to control both sides of the war. This then leads to Mace Windu and 3 other Jedi going to Darth Sideous to place him under arrest. This would then lead to Darth Sideous fighting back against the jedi and kills 3 of the jedi in less than 6 seconds leaving Mace Windu the only one left. We later move on to the scene where the action match shot takes place where we see Darth Sideous lunge his ligthsaber towards Mace Windu's chest. We then see in this shot as well that Mace Windu then moves backwards to dodge and show a mocking gesture to Darth Sideous to show he isnt even trying. As an audience during this scene we can see that Mace Windu is the hero protagonist due to him wearing brown and white robes. Compared to Darth Sideous who is in a dark red colour. Also, the audience would also be on Mace Windu's side due to him being played by Samuel L Jackson who is a well known actor.
