Summary
South Park released an episode on the 2nd of October 2019 called band in china. The episode is based of Randy and his family having to move out of South Park. However, Randy sees an opportunity to create his own business called Tegridy Weed. Apparently in the state of south park this is legal so Randy begins to create masses of land full of weed that he sells to people. However, Randy decides he wants to expand his business away from America. Randy decides to go to China and continue his weed business there. However, when he arrives to the Chinese airline boarders he gets arrested for having weed in his suitcase.
Later in the scene Randy wakes up in a Chinese prison cell and witnesses a practice summary execution (where the prisoner is shot and killed on the spot with no warning of death). Randy is later put on trial for his crimes of smuggling drugs into china, and is forced into doing education through labor, torture and communist re-education.
While Randy is still in prison we see that Winnie The Pooh and Piglet are also in prison. We later discover that Winnie The Pooh and Piglet are in prison as social media was making memes of XI Jinping by comparing him to Winnie Pooh.
Once Randy saw trial in the Chinese courts, he begins to complain to the members of the court taking place that China treat their prisoners unfairly and believe what they should do is have Tegridy as they lack it. We then discover Mickey Mouse is running the courts and apparently most of China. Mickey Mouse learns of Randy's criticism and begins to confront him because of it. Randy later talks to Mickey Mouse of his Tegridy Weed farm and discusses plans of expanding it into china. Mickey Mouse agrees to the idea and go to Chinese officials, but are rejected due to it being illegal to sell.
Mickey then attributes this to the Winnie Pooh matter by making a deal with the Chinese officials that if they deal with Winnie The Pooh they can do their Tegridy business in china without worrying about the law. We then see in a later scene Randy lure Winnie The Pooh into a dark ally way through dropping a trail of honey for Pooh to follow. Once Winnie The Pooh is where Randy and Mickey want him, Randy proceeds to beat up and choke Winnie the Pooh to death with wire, while Piglet is stood right next to them watching in horror.
Now Tegridy Weed was now in business in china it quickly went viral around china due to it being legal we then see scenes of Randy and Mickey Mouse being constantly high. This then leads to multiple disturbing scenes taken place with Randy and Mickey for some reason have sexual intercourse with a bat and also a pangolin.
Also, this isn't all we see in this episode, as Randy's son Stan creates his own death metal group who write most of their songs to do with politics. The band make a biographical film with a producer to make money. Through this the band mates learn that they must cut parts of their life out of the biography in order for it to be appropriate for China due to their strict rules of broadcasting.
Once the Band get approval from the Chinese Officials, the producer of the biography asks Stan to write the biography from his heart so he can express how he truly feels. By doing so Stan expresses his hatred towards the Chinese government and all of its laws on censorship. This then leads to Stan refusing to do the biography as he doesn't want to help china in any sort of way.
Towards the end of the show we see Randy come home from china back to the country side in a truck. We then discover that the truck is full of cash that he had made in China. However, Randy forgot to clean himself after killing Pooh as he has traces of blood and honey on him. Once confronted by Stan, Randy admits to him that he killed Winnie Pooh, Stan then calmly walks into his room and proceeds to write a song about what his dad has done.
Why is this controversial
The reason why this episode is controversial and not suitable for children has many reasons. For example we see the use of drugs. As Randy began his own weed farm and made profit from it. This could be influenced to children if they were to watch this somehow as they could see drugs as a positive thing. We also see Stan create a death metal group who sings about negatives of politics and many other explicit topics. However Stan is supposed to be around the age 9 and 10, and shouldn't be involved in this sort of stuff.
We later see Randy get arrested for smuggling drugs into china. He is then thrown into a Chinese prison. The reason this scene is extremely controversial is because of the punishments given towards Randy. For example, torture was one of the methods of punishment used on Randy which can be seen morally wrong. We next see Randy go through Communist re-education this is heavily controversial as politics are strongly abused in this episode. We also know communism was strongly looked down upon in America and other countries.
Further on we see Winnie The Pooh in prison too, this is because of the Internet memes that has been spread across the world with XI Jinping being compared to Winnie The Pooh. This would come across as controversial as the Chinese politicians are being mocked in a Tv series.
We later learn that Mickey Mouse wants to help Randy with this Tegridy Weed farm. They both plan on expanding the company in china. When asking the Chinese officials they are turned down. Which isn't a shock considering selling weed is illegal. However, Mickey Mouse comes to an agreement with the Chinese officials, that if they handle the Winnie The Pooh problem they will be able to sell the weed.
As we see in the scene Winnie the Pooh is murdered by Randy. This is one of the reasons why the episode was complained about, as we see childhood characters either die or become a drug lord in China.
Later in the episode Stan gets permission from China for his biography. However it all changes as Stan proceeds to write how he feels about Chinese censorship, and then decided he doesn't want to waste his life helping china.
This would anger alot of people as what Stand basically said anyone who helps out China are wasting their life and talent.
This episode can be watched on Sky TV, Amazon Prime and Paramount plus if you are interested in watching the episode.
