Traditional and virtual advertising

 Traditional and virtual advertising

  1. Traditional methods(pre 2000 world wide web)- News paper or magazine adds, Posters, Bilboards,Radio, Audio visual (TV).  These are still relevant today. These are still used methods to attract an older audience. However the negatives of doing this requires mass productions means alot of money. Also, there are positives as it has a mass audience meaning alot of people will see it. Most adverts you see on bilboards or anywhere in your area has a chance that the place is local.
  2. Digital methods- Through a device(multi functional) e.g. mobile phone. ( Online, Access the Web,Take photos, Messaging, Download Games, Music), social media. (Black Box Devices: Henry Jenkins. Other Multi-functional devices-(laptop,TV, Smart Tv, Games Console.

Social Media

  1. Mass audience
  2. Cheaper
  3. Can use more interactive media, video, photo, QR codes.
  4. Audiences can instantly share content. Impact of this= wider audience.

  1. Impact of technological convergence, Web 2.0 Blackbox devices that can do more than one thing. Digital natives brought up with this. Technological convergence: technology has come together in one place. Web 1.0 read-write, Web 2.0 Photo, Videos, Everything. Convergence culture= reliant on technology.
  2. Above the line- When targeting to the masses- Bilboards, Social Media Channels, TV adverts ( ITV, Channel 4, Satelite). Below the C line- Targeting a specific demographic/ niche interest. Groups that make up an audience. E.g. Ethnicity/Culture, Gender, Age, Geographic location. ( More they know, more they can target and audience). Below the line is alot more personalised E.g. "Salman + trout magazine". Via email is also an example of below the line advertising. This is also known as direct marketing.

Traditional Methods

Traditional methods of advertising was done by billboards and posters that were spread across cities, roads or anywhere with a big audience that will be able to see these advertisements. This will then help the film gain more popularity and more profit for the company as more people will come to see the film.

Digital Advertising

These methods work well as they both can help advertise both age groups. For example, an older audience would look at adverts on tv and any sort of print product. Where as the younger generation would either see trailers on YouTube or other media platforms this would then expand the range of audience for their films.

This is effective in gathering its audience as people who already shop at JD will be able to see that they have sales on. By doing this it will attract its audience into wanting to buy multiple products which will gain them alot more money. Also, they can then continue doing sales, as the revenue they earn from costumers will then continue JD's profits. This will then increase the audience for JD and expand their popularity from either around the world or their local shops.
