Picking out mise en scene Task 2

Find screenshots of your film/TV show the following:

Costumes and colour connotations, Props, Gestures, Lighting(high key, low key), Location.

The chosen film I am going to watch

Star Wars Episode 3 Revenge of the Sith
Genre: SI-FI Action

The reason to why I picked this film as it plenty of action, along with a male being porytraited  mentally weak giving the reason to why most events happen in the film. The film also has different ethical backgrounds as we have Samuel L Jackson playing Mace Windu in the film as he is also the only character to have a purple lightsaber in the film.

Analysis of Mise en Scene

This scene in Star Wars Episode 3 portrays Anakin as a weak character mentally. This is because throughout the movie we see how Anakin slowly deteriorates mentally with this scene in the film showing him at his weakest. This was because he begins to struggle with his emotions which leads him to become broken. We as an audience can tell this from the colours that are being used are all in low key, to portray how Anakin is slowly being consumed by darkness. Also, we can tell by his facial expressions that he is broken, as he has set himself to look angry but also at the same time upset with what is happening to him. In this shot from the current scene it is unclear to see where he is due to the background being blurry. However, using knowledge as an audience member we know this is the planet coruscaunt which was the planet he was raised on from being a child. This can also show how he has became a weak character as it is on the number one place he should consider home. This would also interest an audience as the main character of the prequels has became the most weak minded one with the need of being saved.

In this scene we can see a fight between Anakin Skywalker and Count Dooku. We can see they are using lightsabers as their main weapons during this scene. The location of the scene taking place is in space, as we can see distant stars in the background and spaceships. Also, we can tell that this is a si-fi film due to the clothing that the actors are wearing. For example, we can see that the characters are wearing robes and capes which is not commonly worn in this society. The fight scene would also be more suspenseful as the lighting is in a low key to give a sense of mystery to an audience of what is going to happen next. The lighting could contrast to the atmosphere of the scene as it suggests the scene is portraying negativity as the condolence of violence is being used which will lead to one of them being killed. Also, we can tell this is a fight scene as the gestures shown between the two characters shows one is defending himself from the other who appears to be attacking. This will also show to the audience that they are fighting without having to use speech. The colour of the lightsabers tell us who is good and who is bad. For example, the blue coloured lightsaber tells us they are the hero in this scene, and the use of the colour red for the lightsaber tells us they are the bad guy.
