5.Time shifting:  Watching recorded content broadcasted. You can then fast-forward or re-wind tv content ( Satellite TV) e.g. Sky, BT, Virgin and others. Ability to control how you watch/ access TV content.

6. Debate- 'Fragmented audience' (Livingstone 2002) Due to web 2, now that we use black box devices we are now all able to watch different things at the same time. Theory is called "Death of the Schedule".

LO2 DISTRIBUTION IN THE ONLINE AGE

TV

TV was distributed by the BBC that would broadcast a different variety of  genres for people at certain times. These channels were only able to be watched till 10pm. However, the channels being televised were fairly limited. For example, you could only watch your shows on BBC, ITV and Channel 4. This also meant that in order to watch what you needed to see, you had to be there at a certain time otherwise you will miss it. In comparison to this, the modern day world have far more channels compared to what the older generation used to have. Now it is estimated that there are now more than 480 channels being broadcasted on peoples television. Also, TVs brought in the ability to re-wind and fast-forward movies and TV shows. Compared to the first ages of the TV these new features would be seen as out of this world to the people of them times.

Film

Originally the traditional way to go and watch a movie was by going to the cinema. This was so people could go and watch the newest films that had been released. At the time this was a very popular thing to do back then as cinemas could attract large groups for films. However films began to be shown on VHS Tapes which meant people would not have to always go to the cinema to watch their favorite films. This then later went on to the DVDS for films which had far more quality than a VHS, and were then later updated with 4K quality to make the films visuals look far more up to date. However, in the modern world films can now be streamed on many platforms including apps. This meant that DVDs and Cinemas were starting to seem as a insignificance, as movies had now been made far more easy to access from your homes. Also, the best part of streaming films on either Netflix or Disney+ was the fact you could now save where you get up to on films without having to constantly fast-forward back to were you are.

Video Games

When video games first became popular they were mainly accessed in arcade places. This was back when before consoles became popular. These consisted of games like Pacman, Mortal Kombat, Donkey Kong and plenty more. When consoles started to reach the modern world, one of the first that came in to popularity was Pong which was a one of the mainstream games you could play at your home. Eventually, Playstation began to release their consoles which revolutionised the gaming industry by having mulitplayer and the ability to play more than one game. In todays world the big step up in the gaming industry was the introduction to online gaming. This gave people the ability to play with others from around the world either working together or against each other. This would then later strive into more competitiveness in video games and inspiration to other companies to produce more games like these to keep video games advancing into the future.

Magazines and NewsPaper

Newspapers and Magazines were traditionally produced as print products for the public. This meant that people would have to go and collect the magazine that they would want to read for any updates in fashion or whatever their interests would be. Newspapers could be posted to you if you wanted to read the weekly news as it was a way in seeing what events had taken place in the world along with sports. Newspapers could also advertise adverts for jobs or sales that were being taken place as it was seen as the best place to promote your products. However, in the modern world newspapers are now read as articles on your phone, laptop, tablet and many other devices. This is because not many people rely on the printing press anymore and find it easier to access the news on their phones.

Radio

Originally the radio was distributed on radio players, where you would wake up at certain times in the morning and listen to your favorite stations. Where as now you can now access radio stations from your phones or any other devices with the ability to play back anything you have missed.

Music

When music became popular it was most commonly distributed on vinyl players, where you could listen to your favorite singer or band with their greatest hits or albums that had been released. You could also have portable VHS players with your favorite music which could be carried about with you while you are on your travels. Next the CD player was released which would give you the ability to change song to song on albums it also gives u the ability to play back songs or loop the album. However, as technology began to advance so did listening to music. For example, the mp3 player became available for people as it was a portable device which allowed you to add your favorite songs from a computer to your device which meant no more listening to albums to get to your song as now you could have the songs of your choice. Further on, the release of the smartphone now gave people to listen to music on their phones for free. This gave more space in people's pockets and money saved for their bank. This would require you to download music apps such as Spotify or amazon music and even YouTube music. Along with this, headphones and earbuds also advanced with technology giving people the best listening experience with music. For example on Spotify and amazon you can have advanced music features, such as Dolby atmosphere, 360 reality audio and many more. Also, with these new music apps it also gave people to become creative with the music as there are features with some apps giving u the turn table options allowing u to change the sound or instruments to any song, this could potentially allow u to change rock music into rap or pop.
